Default Royal Purple MTF

So We drained out the factory M6 transmission fluid after 5000 miles. Installed all new fresh quarts of Royal Purple MTF and now it shifts like I installed rocks in the gear box. Now can someone tell me why this happens? All fresh total synthetic fluid and it grinds like no tomorrow. It was so much smoother with the old 5K stuff in there. I guess I'll switch to Aimsoil tomorrow as soon as I can order.
If anybody can tell me why this happen that would be great.

Thanks

Yep, fluid should be Dexron-III compatible, and Royal Purple Synchromax it's not. I put that on an LS2 GTO once, and didn't grind, but also made things worse than the non-synthetic stock. I recently switched to Amsoil TorqueDrive Dexron-III fluid on the '12 GS, and although it didn't get rid of the 1-2 crunch when cold (as expected), it was an improvement over the stock fluid, even with just 3K miles. Whatever you use, just make sure it's Dexron-III (not IV) compatible. Good luck.

I just put Synchromax in mine.... no problems.... and it says it is for manuals where an ATF spec fluid is called for... I looked at user reviews... the Amsoil had a bunch of complaints... the synchromax was overwhelmingly positive...

Well I don't get it. The Synchromax is supposed to be used in replacement for the Dexron. Where did you see these reviews?

correct... it is supposed to be used in replacement of the dexron... I I remember. a checked a few sites that sell it... AMAZON and "the find".

just looked at the reviews.....

I had bought the RP ATF and then learned about the snychomax... and then called RP and asked them... they said I could used either but the synchromax was the better choice.

The link below has some very interesting info on Manual trans fluid, it was written by a professional tribologist and he knows his stuff. It gives recommended substitutes for atf in manual trannys

I originally drained the factory fluid from my 09 TR6060 and filled with RP. Shifting was terrible. Drove it around 90 miles and drained and filled with Mobil1 ATF.

Not sure I've seen these complaints either and there are many forum members using the AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (Product Code ATD1G) (as am I in my 02 Z06 at the track).

PM I received yesterday on this ATF: "... the tranny fluid made a big difference in my car. "
