So over the weekend my lcd screen would not power on at all. I did press the volume **** in as that typically turns it on and I tried that several times but nothing. I randomly started pressing all of the buttons on the radio/nav to see if I could get it to respond and nothing. I even tried ejecting the lcd to expose the cd/dvd and nothing. The car started just fine and ran with no issues, but the lcd screen on the center console was pretty much dead. I drove it around for a while and I parked. I pressed a bunch of buttons randomly again and the screen came on. I havent had an issue with it since then. Should I be concerned?
So the radio appeared totally dead, no volume or anything?
Our 2006 did that twice in one day, then never again until we sold it about 2 yrs/30k miles later.
Our 2009 had a situation where, especially in cold weather, the radio would work "normally" but nothing would show on the screen. There was a dealer fix that involved using a special GM disc to upgrade the radio programming, and that solved the problem for us. You'd think the newer cars like yours would come from the factory already "modified", but I'm not sure...
Thats odd I would think they would have upgraded it as well. I may have turned it off after turning it on when I didnt see anything on the screen. It's possible that it was playing music but not displaying. I will have to test that out if it happens again.
This exact same thing has been happening with mine for over a month now. Blank screen, no sound - even from the chimes - no buttons work. The first time it happened I turned the car off and didn't investigate anything for about 5 hours and when I came out to the garage to look at it I had a dead battery. I put a charger on it and everything was back to normal. A week or so later it happened again. This time I immediately did a disconnect/reconnect the battery when I got back home and was back to normal. It's happened randomly at least 5x within 2 months and I've been disconnecting the battery to get it back. I have no idea what's going on but the weird part is it started doing this a couple days after I connected a Kawal harness to my XM receiver so I could use the phone to stream Pandora. I contacted Ray and he had no explanation.
Check the fuse panel in the passenger footwell. I was having issues with my Nav/CD eject button and checked that fuse panel. There was some kind of black gunk on top of the radio fuse and some of the others around it.
