Forgot to throw my battery tender on my 2005 corvette (m6) over the winter and the battery went dead. When I got it out this spring and charged the battery I was having a bunch of electrical problems. Service Fuel System, Service Column Lock, Radio freezing up and not accepting input from the controls, and key fobs working intermittently. I was able to fix alot of them by shutting off and restarting the car.
I know a weak battery can cause a lot of issues so I replaced the battery in the car and the key fobs with new. I even put the charger on the new battery to fully charge it. Now the only way I can get into my car is by going through the hatch and pulling the cable. I get no response from the car when I hit any of the buttons on the fob while outside the vehicle. Once I sit into the drivers seat the dash lights up and everything works normal.
It starts great and I no longer have any of the messages or radio issues. Even the fob works when I am sitting in the drivers seat. Handed the fob to a buddy who stood outside the car and it worked like it was suppose to as long as I was sitting in the drivers seat. Once I get out of the seat when the car is off it goes back to not working and not letting me get into the car.
Any suggestions are welcome, been trying to figure it out without luck.
First thing I suggest is disconnect the car battery and wait at least 10 mins (put one window down before disconnecting). Reconnect, wait a few minutes then try using the FOB buttons. Might just need to get back and start at zero again. And don't forget about re-indexing the windows after reconnect.
Yeah I did that a few hours ago. No change in anything. I got a appointment to get it into my local dealership on next Tuesday in case I don't figure it out.
Any one know of any security systems that might cause this?
Maybe the RCDLR or BCM? I can't see it being the RCDLR since the fobs work fine in and out of the car once I am sitting in the drivers seat.
Edit: Left the window down so I can just reach down and pull the release on the floor. Got in that way and decided to go for a drive. Drove great without a single issue. Get back home and I shut it off, put it in reverse and step out and shut the door it. Immediately try to open the door again and it will not open. Reach through the open window and put weight on the seat and try the door from the outside with my other hand and the door opens right up.
Check to make sure the voltage on the batteries you put in the fobs are actually 3V. Could have gotten duds.
There could also be some radio interference coming from somewhere disrupting your fob's service and you act as an antenna when you sit in the seat for whatever reason.
Swapped out the battery in the main fob I use and no change. I thought of interference right away and unplugged my RF transmitter as one of the first things without luck. It acts the same parked in my garage or outside so I don't believe its a problem with that.
Acts as if the car shuts down and doesn't get any signals from the fob or door until it gets woke up by me putting weight on the seat.
"Son, if you reset your compass and an engine quits, put the compass back where it was and the engine will probably re-start."
In your case, the car battery and fob batteries were changed. You can't reinstall the old ones, but the problem was probably caused by one of those actions. Just gotta figure out what went wrong.
