Default Problem with electronic heat/AC unit

Hey guys and gals,

I have a 2010 GS with the dual zone climate heat/air system. About 4 out of 5 starts of the engine the AC/heat unit illuminates and shows the ext. temp. However none of the buttons or ***** do anything on that unit. The unit will not power up so heat and AC don't work. The GPS system and even those heated seats work when this happens. The back light is always on along with the ext temp so I'm assuming it is getting power and not a blown fuse. Of course 1 out of 5 times I start up it works fine. Heat is hot and AC is cold and all the buttons work as normal. Wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. I did a search but every result is about AC compressors. That isn't my issue.

any ideas?

thanks!

Occasionally HVAC control panels go bad with varying levels of malfunction: unresponsive buttons, blinking numbers, goofy symbols. Mine got progressively worse until it no longer worked at all. All connectors, fuses, etc. were good. The fix was replacement.

You used to hear about this a lot in the early years of the C6, but it seems like a less common problem now.

As stated, the fix is replacement and the things aren't cheap

My wife's 2007 C6 unit went wacky (the buttons locked up to where the max pressure I could put on them wouldn't budge them. Wtf?!)

I replaced it with a salvage yard unit. Even that wasn't particularly cheap.

Partstaxi.com (a forum vendor) has it new for $375.

I figured replacement was the solution and looks like I'm 3 months outside my warranty

Of course. That's what OnStar is really for - to let the car's various parts know "Ok, NOW you can go bad!"

On the other hand, replacing the thing is a piece of cake and will cost you nothing in labor. It's a perfect time to install that MGW shifter you've been wanting, too
