Default Cai/throttle body

I'm looking to purchase a Haltech MF 103 CAI unit. While I'm at is it logical to get a ported throttle body e.g. vmax ported LS3/L99, maybe a 160 thermostat as well. Thanks for the help. Working my way up to headers next summer, trying to get some peripherals out of the way.

Any suggestions as to what would work well with this setup would be appreciated.. Thinking of oil catch can as well.

you will need it to be tune after the t-stat. t-body really does not do much, although some claim 5-8 rwhp. for the $200 PLUS the tune that is up to you. be prepared to chase some lean conditions or bucking & surging due to the excessive turbulant air though. that will most likely need tuning as well or Mass replacement.
catch can is always good to have. it will keep the system clean of oil.

You will not NEED to tune after installing a 160 thermostat, cai, or throttle body. They will all benefit from the tune though. I did my cai and 160 stat over a year before I added headers and a tune and it was fine. Your car will run cooler while moving, but will run at stock temps while standing still until you get it tuned. I experienced no bucking and surging from adding a cai with no tune. When you add headers you should get a tune or you will get a check engine light.

There is no point of changing the T-stat without a tune. At low speeds, the engine coolant temps will remain the same. The engine temps at highway speeds will drop. The ECM starts to pull timing at around 213* which is easily attainable with the oem tune at low speeds. I would think it is more important to get under the 213* threshold than to drive on the freeway with 180*. A tune and T-stat will benefit both highway and low speed driving.

As far as the Halltech MF 103, you don't need to tune, but will benefit from one.

Throttle body and headers would require a tune.

Catch can is a good idea to keep the intake and combustion chamber free from oil vapor which can cause detonation and carbon buildup.
