Default Adding Lumber to my Z

I'm upgrading my Z with adjustable lumbar support bladders. Everything is done, but I'm not sure where the new switches I'm add for the lumber support plugs in. Its my understanding that its plug and play. My car is a 2012.

Thanks for the help. I wanna get this done.

Well it is sort of plug and play. Which trim package do you have on the car? The switches go in the bezels on the side of the seat. There are two bezels for the driver's side seat. One has just a power seat switch and the other has the power seat switch and the lumbar support switch. On the passenger side if the car doesn't have a power seat track there is no bezel and if it has a power seat track the bezel will have provisions for both the power seat and the lumbar support switches. However, to upgrade that side you also need a bracket that screws to the side of the seat frame. The bracket actually holds the switches and the bezel which snaps over the bracket and has one screw located near the recliner lever which screws the bezel to the bracket. You will have to cut the seat skin so you can install the bracket and the switch. You can see a mirror image of the bracket by pulling the bezel off the driver side seat.

When I did this upgrade last year the passenger side bracket was somewhat hard to obtain and I ended up getting two by accident. It isn't an expensive part and if you can't find one easily let me know and I will see if I can find my spare and will sell it to you for $10 plus shipping.

If you haven't added a power seat track on the passenger side you might want to think about adding a switch just so you don't have a blank hole on that side.

Thanks Bill. Actually its a 2012 2LZ with dual power and heated seats. All I'm doing is adding the Lumbar bladders and switch on the drivers side. I need to find out where the bladder motor and lumbar switches plug in as they both have plugs with no indication where they go. There is no way to plug it into the main harness that controls the power and airbag under the seat (the two plugs that come out from under the carpet). I'm stymied. All of the directions I've seen online just say to plug it into the harness, but don't show where or how. Did they change the harness set up with the 2012 seat change? The parts guys at Fichtner where I bought the parts indicated that there should be a plug but dont know either.

`_` I was waiting for that. I was in a mad rush trying to get my seat back in the car before work.

When I added them to my 08 which had single power and dual heated seats it was very easy since the seat track harness had a plug available for the lumbar. It was separate from the other connectors and all I had to do was plug the lumbar connector into it. I purchased a used passenger power seat track from a 2010 Grand Sport that had full sport seats and the same connector was part of that seat track wiring harness. If doubt they changed the harness for 2012 just to eliminate a little bit of wire and a connector. Too much engineering effort and another part number to manage to make it worth the effort to change for 2 more years usage.

Seat track harness is fastened to the seat track and runs to the seat position sensors, seat heaters, the memory module and the lumbar connector.

Here is a picture that BEZ06 took of his driver's seat a couple of years ago.

You can see the harness routed around the seat track. One of those connectors is for the lumbar system. The connector with the purple latching mechanism is Connector X375. Pin A6 of that connector has a power feed coming into it on a Red/White wire. That power feed goes to a junction in the seat harness and ends up feeding the lumbar switch and the lumbar pump/electronics in parallel. If you follow the red/white wiring you should be able to find the connector.

Bill, now I'm completely perplexed. Took my seat back out and went back through all the wiring. There is absolutely NO way to plug in the pump or switches anywhere. Even had my best friend double check it. Is it possible that on a 2012 2LZ, they used a different harness from the 3LZ trim level?? Hard to believe, but WTH??

Did you look under the carpet? I have a '12 GS 4LT, and removed the seat to do a seat mod I recommend you do now that the seat is out. I bought a clear plastic kitchen mat (to cut vegetables) and cut it to size to prevent the wires you see on the seat picture above from eventually cutting into the foam.

Now to your issue. For what I remember, there were TWO connectors under the carpet at the front. Plus the yellow airbag at the rear. The huge purple one we all know about, and a small one. THAT could be the one you're looking for. Just stick your hand in there and see if there's anything else in there, front and back. At least you know what size connector it should be based on the parts you already bought. As a side comment, the stupid bladder prevents the seat from having any cushioning when all the way down. In fact, you can hear the motor struggling to get all the way down. It does, but the seat will feel as soft as a concrete park bench. I had to raise it a little, just enough that my (light) weight pushes the seat enough to almost bottom out, meaning my driving position didn't change when I'm seated. And I confirmed that by not having to adjust the mirrors or anything else. It made all the difference in the world; no more sore butt an hour into a trip. Sorry I didn't have more helpful information, but did this mod a few months back. But at least I told you about the seat mod. You can do a search. I might have it bookmarked if you can't find it. That guy cut a very small piece of plastic mat. I cut it to cover everything, but it was a royal PITA to install. But it looks OEM, and will never have to worry about wires cutting the foam. Oh, and the passenger side already has a thick pad; that's why it feels plumpier than the driver's seat (that's due to the airbag seat sensor). At least I only had to do one side . Good luck man.

All three connectors under the carpet plug in to existing plugs in the seat hardware. There appear to be no open connectors or plugs anywhere. BTW, I have already done the seat foam rebuild mod with a jute pad to prevent the sagging that you have experienced. It feels no different with the seat all the way down. Thanks for the info and response though. All help is appreciated at this point.

All I can offer is that I will be pulling my seats in the next week to add some insulation under the carpeting. At that time I can look under the seat to see which connector I plugged the lumbar into. At this time all I know is I didn't have to add any additional harness to my driver side seat track.

Had zero issues with the seat man; my car is still new. Did the thin plastic mat mod at 500 miles as a precaution to avoid the wires cutting thru the foam... which is what causes the 'sagging'.
And you haven't felt a difference because you haven't installed the bladder yet . After you do, it will bottom out on top of it. You'll see . But I explained the solution. Good luck.

Nope. I already have the bladder and the rest of the parts installed, just haven't connected it. Bolted the seat back in so I can drive the car while I sort out the connector issue and it feels the same. As stated, I installed the jute pad with rebuild kit as I was sagging bad. Thanks for the tip though and glad it worked out for you.

Bill, that would be great. Let me know what you find!

Wasn't able to get good pictures of the connector. On my seat it is located right above the lumbar pump and hangs down from the seat track. The lumbar harness comes out of the bag containing the lumbar pump and curves around and up and plugs into the connector on the seat harness. Both the male and female connectors are sort of cream colored. Will try to play with the pictures a little tonight to see if I can get them clearer and them post them.

Got the picture that shows the seat track lumbar connector.

The side of the connector that has the visible wires is the harness that comes from the lumbar pump. The mate is tied into the seat track harness.

This picture is taken looking up toward the bottom of the seat.

This picture is the same view as the first picture but taken from a greater distance.

THANKS Bill. I finally checked with my tech and local parts guy. Seems they make two harnesses to fit non-lumbar and lumbar equipped cars- doh! Mystery solved. The new harness will be here first of the week. I do appreciate all the help.

Hi Jesse

When I put a set of seats with all the high level trim options in my 2006 Z06, the driver's side was plug-n-play. I'm surprised that they put two different harnesses in, but I guess they try to save a few cents where ever they can!!

On another note, John U emailed me wondering about the Daytona HPDE in Dec. Henry Gilbert dissolved his relationship with HoD and started his own track day organization - PDG (Performance Driving Group). Take a look at his new website - click on "Events" to see the Daytona HPDE will be Dec 6-8. You can do 1, 2, or 3 days:
