I keep butt-activating the panic button on my keyless key. Can it be de-activated?

I don't remember which thread I found it in, but I took my fob apart and taped over the contact on the board. No more accidental panics since...

Eight years and it hasn't happened to me and I always carry it in my front pocket. It can't be turned off.

The good news is that you did not lock the key fob in the car...

I thought you were embarrassed for not knowing how to spell it . Just kidding man. Yeah, just get used to put the fob in the front pocket. Or deactivate the button by taking the control apart. The former is a much better and easier solution IMO . Just don't put it in the change pocket (fits perfectly there though), or the seatbelt could damage it in a panic braking/accident.

Thanks for all the great responses. I've tried using my front pocket with nothing else in there and it's still gone off several times. I may have to open it up as a last resort - hate to do it. Or just get used to taking it out while I'm in the car. Re. spelling, now I'm double-embarrassed. For the record, it was a keystroke error, all right?

Thanks again

Just a thought, might try a fob cover, never had alarm go off and it protects the fob... If it happens all the time, you can turn the cover around to cover the buttons when in your pocket... You can search them on Fleabay or Amazon, less than $10.00 and free shipping...

are you wearing that Will Ferrell tight pants from Saturday night live ?

you may be able to take the fob apart and put a piece of electrical tape on the contacts.

or just put the fob in your front pocket.

I had the problem in the front pocket until I learned to have the buttons face me. Leaning over a desk, chair, fender, etc was activating buttons too often.
I finally did the cellophane tape trick, so that coins in the same pocket didn't push buttons.

Why hate to do it? You will have to pop it open eventually to replace the battery...it's no big deal. Pop it open and put a small piece of tape over that contact on the board and problem solved. It can be done in a couple of minutes and is fully reversible if you don't like it.

Never once had this happen in 76k miles of driving.

I'm also surprised to find out people keep the plastic fobs in their back pockets and sit on them. It seems they could be prone to breaking.

I got a "Fob Jacket" (google), then cut a piece of thin but stiff plastic to fit inside the front. Punched small holes in it so i can activate the buttons with a ball point pen.

That went from setting off the alarm twice a day, to maybe twice a year.

EDIT-
BTW, putting the fob in my pocket with the buttons facing my leg, did absolutely nothing to reduce the false alarms. In fact, it made them more frequent for me. YMMV.

+1, took me maybe 5 minutes to open it up, put scotch tape over the contact, put it back together and test it out. Before taping it, I set the alarm off several times with the fob in my front pocket, I keep my wallet and keys in the same pocket and cell phone in the other pocket...

This used to happen to me all the time, I finally Velcro'd it to my forehead. No more problems, the old lady's a bit put off but that's OK and I have extra room in my pockets.

Geez; if his airbag goes off then it's going to activate his panic alarm, pop the trunk, lock and unlock his doors, ...
