a/c mode stuck??
My a/c mode selector switch does not work. It is stuck on “feet” mode, even though I select other modes it stays on “feet” mode. I read somewhere that this was due to a duct-door being stuck and that I would need to remove the entire dash to repair it. So before I dove off into this I wanted to ask if anyone else has had this problem and maybe it was something else..a bad selector switch..etc..??
Thanks
John
To be more correct, the door isn't "stuck" so much as it is likely shredded. This is what a typical one looks like when it fails:
Be aware that there are 4 of those in the system. There is a high probability they will all fail at some point. Others have reported here that the new replacement units are a different color material so the hope is they are a better material and will last longer than the original ones but there is no evidence of that yet. The typical cost to remove the dash and replace ONE is about $1500. Sooooo, the prudent thing to do is replace all 4 at the same time. The extra parts cost is relatively small, maybe about $200 more, which will save the labor cost of removing the dash again when the next one fails later this year or next year or whenever. Just food for thought. Best of luck.
that looks really large! and you say there are four of them? I have already replaced the battery not to long ago, so it's not as simple as a reset.....would have been nice though!
So the way it's acting, do you think it's the door?? or could it be a switch?
How big is that door? it looks like it's over a foot long

But is there some year at which the failure rate suddenly got lower, which would indicate an improved part?

The member who posted about the different material and color in his replacement units was in Nov 2010.
