Default Squeak, chirp, squeal?

Have a 2012 GS Coupe. From the day I got it, it had a belt squeak and chirp so of course I had the dealer look at it to determine the cause. At 1,700 miles the harmonic balancer was replaced and the chirp went away. But now, at cold idle, there is a squeak. And hot or cold under throttle there is a constant belt squeal. It's back in the shop being looked at again. The shop manager indicated that the belts have a high shine to them and it appears they may be glazed. Could a failing HB have overheated the belts sufficiently to cause them to glaze? I asked them to replace the belts when they replaced the HB but was told with only 1,700 miles on them, they were as good as new.

What else could cause the squeak and squeal? Belt tension too loose or too tight? Bad compressor or alternator? Replacement HB is also bad?

The noises are driving me nuts! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Man, unbelievable you're having those issues on a freaking '12. But with the issues I've had with my '12 GS too, am not surprised; just disappointed as hell at GM. But will pay the favor back with my wallet, by never buying another GM car for the rest of my life. My C5 had piston slap and ultra noisy valvetrain (among other issues), and that's why I waited EIGHT freaking years for the C6. And now dealing with this kind of crap is absolutely inexcusable. Okay, rant off .

Anyway, sounds like a botched installation to me. It could also be a bad HB, but the chances of failing right off the bat are minuscule IMO. I wouldn't accept just a belt change, because you'll be back with the same problem a few hundred miles later... but they need to be changed for sure now. I'd probably look for a better dealer, with a certified C6 wrench. Good luck man, and please keep us posted.

Thanks for he input. The Vette mechanic I use - David Fulcher - is THE Vette mechanic in the Atlanta area. He knows these cars inside and out, so I will wait to see what he has to say. Hopefully it's something minor, and I'll definitely post an update when I have some news.
