Default I give up!

I thought that the C5 cars were the only ones with the gas gauge sending unit problem. Mine has been giving me fits for a couple of months. I have run about 6 tankfuls with Techron and it is still screwed up. It will go to empty at about 3/8 of a tank. I fill it and it stays empty. I clear codes and it goes to full.

Yesterday I had a half tank and filled up. I started it up and it still read 1/2 tank. I drove about a block and it went to empty. I cleared codes and it went to full for about 10 seconds and then went to empty. It finally went to full and is still reading full today.

Bad ground someplace??

must admit I haven't seen any postings about this but then again I don't see everything....intermittent I would say yeah possibly a bad ground but that doesn't explain it going to full if you clear codes..

I have an '07 and had the same issue long ago at about 25,000 miles. Tried the Techron method but it didn't solve the problem. The only solution for me was to take it to the dealer and have the tanks removed and sending unit replaced. Fortunately, it was still under warranty. Now I use top tier gas only and every so often use a bottle of Techron and the problem hasn't occurred again.

My C5 didn't need the codes cleared in order to work. I just put in a couple of tankfuls with Techron and it started working. I read in another thread on this forum that the guy had to take it to the stealership to get the codes cleared for $90 to get it to work. I bought my own code reader to avoid that.

Don't forget Auto Zone can read and clear codes for free. I too have bad sending units in my 2010 C6. At first it was not at all then after about 2 yrs it was here and there now they just seem to be completely bad. Tried all the tricks to fix it but looks like I will have to have them replaced.

I bought the code reader from Auto Zone for about $50. They are about 30 miles from me. I figure it was money well spent.

FWIW, last year I started riding my bike to work several days per week and didn't drive my car (daily driver) as much as normal. After about a month goes by and my gas guage goes to zero for no apparent reason (first time ever). Coincidence? My guess is no, has something to do with the car sitting there. I did the Techron thing for a month or so and it returned to normal. Hasn't done it in about a year.

Hope you get yours resolved.

Bg44k would be a stronger and yet approved product. You can buy it off eBay. I like it better than tech Ron.

I hope this helps
