Default Airconditioning problem

Hi, I have just bought a 2008 Zo6.

I have a problem with the aircon only blowing on the screen and not onto my face or to floor.

any ideas would help.

when did it start ? did you have a dead battery ?
try pulling the fuse for the ac system (climate control) wait 15 minutes, plug it back in start the engine, let it run another 15 minutes & recheck. hopefully the mode door is not broken or stuck.

When you say "mode door" broken or stuck, what do you mean ?

Is this a big job to fix ?

There are 4 "mode doors"/actuators in the HVAC system that open and close to direct air to the appropriate place based on the control settings you input with the dash control.

Very common failure unfortunately. The most common failure is the material tears and gets wound up in the mechanism then things just get jammed up and can't work.

Advice to consider IF, stress IF, this is your problem. The whole dash has to be removed to get to these things. It typically costs about $1500 with all the labor involved. SO, you should seriously consider replacing ALL 4 at the same time, to avoid another $1500 bill when the next one fails in a few months, or next year, or whenever. The others will fail at some point. The extra parts cost to do all 4 is only about $200.

The possible good news is that other members have reported that the new replacement doors seem to be a different material and are a different color so "hopefully" they will hold up and last longer than the originals.

Here's a pic of one just for reference.

Any chance your car is a CPO with warranty, or a GMPP extended warranty?

I would certainly suggest more diagnosis before tearing it apart on your own dime.

Ha, I was wondering it that was Perth Australia or Perth Amboy, NJ.

Anyway, if you're going at it yourself here are a couple DIY's that should help:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...or-repair.html

http://www.kawal.net/Dash%20Replacement.htm

And another thing you might try is disconnecting the battery for 10-30 minutes. In a very few cases that reset everything and it worked properly.

Good luck.
