Well i wanted the B&B bullets, i wanted an aggressive sound. However i did not feel like parting with a grand for some pipes with a resonator. I did not find any cheap used ones around either.
So i decided to do this. Cost me $250 to get these made at a local shop, and i can swap back to stock in very little time whenever i want! I REALLY like the sound, and surprisingly i think my B&B exhaust on my C5 Z06 was slightly louder. I posted a video at the end of the pics.
Have you driven it yet? I drove my car around the block with no over axle pipes and the drone was insane. Put on Bullets and while the overall sound is about the same, the drone is minimal. Never did straight pipes out the back though, so couldn't tell you how that compares to Bullets or nothing.
In the video I revved to about 4k slowly brought it down to about 2k then slowly back up to 4k, bouncing around at 3-4k, then spike it up to 5k, then slowly brought to idle at the end.
this other video the car is revving no other stuff.
Less than other performance exhausts i've had, and less than the drone on my C5. Its not bad.
I know this may not be anyone's cup of tea, I know because i've modded many cars, but this does work well in comparison to other exhausts. I had searched the forums to see if anyone documented doing it. I just thought id get it on the forum for searching, I have been running this set up for a little while, went back to stock for inspection,
and slapped it back on yesterday. I have more than 10k on this set up.
That way people can see how terrible, good, or what it sounds like.
I like it, it sounds like my c5 zo6 with the bullets in tone, except alot quieter in the cabin. It isn't even crazy loud outside the cabin either.
Shoulda spent the coin on the bullets... They sound a lot better and look a million times better than those two way to far spread apart tips you have there buddy lol you drive a vette why complain about a thousand dollar exhaust ha
I think it sounds ok. What you lose compared to the Bullets is the resonator tuning the exhaust note. Yours sounds more like the Loudmouths--more raspy is one way of putting it, not as mellow. And of course the Bullets look great, fully polished with great tips. However, if you're happy and you did save about a grand, good for you.
Yea an exhaust wasn't worth that to me. I like to do HPDE events, and that saved money will be used elsewhere.
Also you can choose any tips you'd like. There are tips out there that look stock. I however have a hard time putting dual tips on a single pipe. That's just me.
I tried straight pipes for about 3 weeks. Way, way too loud for me and the local LEO's.
With headers and no cats, it's quite a bit louder.
I did it a little different, by using an over-the-axle pipe from a base system and adding a straight section to replace the muffler. My full bi-mode pipe/muffler never got cut. Total cost was $80 including 4" tips.
