I went to a cruise-in tonight and after my car sat for about an hour with the hood up, I tried to start it. It barely started and ran momentarily like half the cylinders were firing or it had really bad gas. I shut it off immediately and waited a minute and it did the same thing. The third time I started it, the engine stumbled but cleared itself and it ran as usual with no stumbling or stutter. On the way home, the car ran as if nothing had happened.
Air temperature was in the low 90s, high 80s. I had my second key fob rather than my primary fob, but I've used this fob before with no problem. There were no unusual lights on the dash during or after the hard starting episode. The tank was filled yesterday with premium gas from my regular station.
Anybody have any idea what was going on? Could there have been something similar to a vapor lock with the high ambient temp?
The first thing I thought was bad gas, but this is my DD and I burn a fresh tank a week, fill it with premium and have been using the same station for over 10 years without a problem. That doesn't rule out that the last tankful had moisture.
Since it did clear up and ran like usual, to include a coupe of "spirited launches", I'm inclined to rule out bad gas.
To the dealer on Monday and more to follow if there is anything significant.
