Default Kooks Headers Review

Recently I purchased my 2011 GS Coupe and I am very happy with the car until of course two weeks later the modding bug starts to kick in .

Having done some research, I decided to go ahead and purchase my first mod which is a set of Kooks Headers 17/8.

Shortly, the headers arrived and when I opened the box I was excited but at the same time, I was a little dissappointed by the scratched finish on the product. Hate to be picky, but if you are going to pay for something it better be up to your expecations.

So the next thing was to to ahead and get an exhaust with a CAI, so as I was shopping around locally, I went ahead and called a reputable shop around in the are, no names disclosed.

I advised the guy of what set up on the headers I was running, and the first questions was why? Kooks supposedely are not the greatest product due to their fitment etc etc.

I went ahead and tried to do some searching on the forums for the review of the headers but no luck. So if you are reading this, and you actually had kooks headers please respond as to what your experience has been with the tune, install fitment etc.

Thanks in advance!

I would call kooks and address the scratch issue, they shouldnt have any, kooks have great fitment, according to my tuner Cartek says they are the best, i have ran some great times with them, and no scratches, i just had them off to try another's header and the kooks fit great

I have Kooks as well. Their fitment is excellent. In particular, I like the ball type fitments at the X pipe as opposed to slip fittings. My shop likes them because they have never had any issues with them as well.....top quality.

I have kooks headers and catted and non-catted x-pipes. Both x-pipes have fitment issues. You can't fjnd anything bad about them on this forum because they are a supporting vendor.

In terms of the rub marks, you dont have any dents? The shop I was speaking to they were saying that that the pipe would get damaged if you went over the curb at the track and that sooner or later you would need to change it out...

Kooks headers are like most other exhausts in that they are "mill finish". That means exactly what it sounds like..they leave it the finish it comes to the from the mlll with. This is because when you install the headers they will just turn bronze anyway, which makes something like polishing pointless, and would only add cost.

Also, sometimes the headers have marks on them from where the bender grabs and bends them. There is not really much of a way around this as the bender bends these things with pretty high pressure, and stainless is a soft metal. With a header, you want something fits well, and will last forever..and Kooks will fit the bill. If you are picky about appearance, pretty much every header on the market is mill finish as described. The only other way around it would be to silver ceramic coat them.

In terms of fit, we have been Kooks largest dealer for years, and have never had issues with fit..especially on the C6 header. You are fine there. You have to remember that people pick brands of headers for a Corvette like they pick football teams. Typically whatever one person runs, they love, and they will trash all other brands for not making the same power or having fit issues (even though that is not reality).

Thanks for the reply. In all honestly when it comes to the looks you hit the nail right on, ceramic coating is the way to go! I am more worried ab the fitment of the headers and x pipe if I ever track the car, going over the curbs I want to make sure that there will be no damage in any way.

Thanks for the reply again!

I have rub marks and scrapes. no dents that I have seen. every time I go over speed bumps I hear them scrape. I don't sweat it. good quality stuff (pricy but worth it)

In May, I had my shop install Kooks 1/78 hi flow cat w/ 3 in x pipe. They prefer Kooks and I have been very happy with the sound and power gains generated from the tune and the Callaway CAI on my 2008 A6 C6. Dynoed at 410 rwhp up from 373 base run.

There are many discussions about headers in this forum. For the mst part, they are all fine as long as you are using the top brands and have a good installer/shop.

Good Luck you will love them!

I have a set of Kooks 1-3/4" headers Jet Hot coated with the X-pipe/high flow cats running though the NPP exhaust that came on my car. They were installed over four years ago and they look as good now as the day I bought them. Very well made and fit as good as you could expect in the tight confines of a C6.
Maryland Speed had them with free Jet Hot coating included.

I would buy them again.
