I have a 2008 Corvette with 74,000 miles and the car has the factory option dual exhaust. Recently the exhaust has become extremely noisy, regardless or RPM. I have had the exhaust system checked by the dealer and it has no leaks.
During the last visit to the dealer the tech explained the problem as broken/defective valves at the exhaust header end of the exhaust pipes. They are lose and rattle making a metallic noise thru the exhaust pipes and well existing unusually loud exhaust. They suggested the only cure was to replace the entire exhaust system claiming each side is a single part; cost for both sides is about $2800. Before I elect to do this, I thought I would check to see if anyone in the Forum had heard of similar problems.
I am going to take a wild guess on your problem with the price you stated. The stealership wants about $1200 per muffler for the NPP. I assume you are hearing a rattling or metal vibration in your exhaust. I did this post on mine.

All Corvettes have dual exhaust, it's not an option. If you mean the NPP dual mode exhaust then it has nothing to do with "broken/defective valves at the header end of the exhaust" since the NPP valves are at exit end of the mufflers.
Replacing the "entire" exhaust system would be MUCH more than$2800, there are 7 major pieces + gaskets, clamps and bolts.
You need a second opinion, preferably from someone that understands the NPP mufflers. There is a chance the muffler valves can be repaired instead of replacing the full muffler/overaxle section of both sides.
There are used NPP mufflers For Sale sometimes here on the Forum.
If you want an NPP muffler replacement that will sound and look better than OE and produce more power you might be interested in our Fusion System. MSRP is $1,890 - which is much less than $2,100 for new OE mufflers.
Not sure what your asking but vaccum control the mufflers on the NPP and you may have a leak. You can also have the fuse blown and the exaust would be loud all the time.Or are you talking about a rattle at the rear of the car that could be the exaust?
