I purchased my 05 with this "Frankenstein" Flowmaster/Dynatech exhaust system that sounded OK at WOT and more like a Ford down low. My build began with the 45' merge X-pipe normally used on our Porsche turbo systems. Stepped the diameter up to 3" , found some BMW X5 M resonators , Ebay s/s V-bands, Lucas Fab rolled 15" muffler cans and stamped end plates, Performance Tube 180' bends and perf tube , BMW Eisenmann muffler packing etc.
I then insulated the tunnel with special thermal sheet and Dynamat Xtreme. Also coating the Dynatech headers with thermal Jet/hott stuff. And the finished product:
My goal was to achieve a "flat crank" V8 sound with no high gear cruise drone. It's nice to "tune" the sound myself and learn more about noise dampening. I can have both mufflers out and apart on the bench in less then 20mins , thanks to V-band technology.
