Default Rear hatch button

2013 GS 3LT Coupe. The release button on the back above the license plate stopped working. Any body else have this issue or a fix?

Do you have the fob with you when you try to open it? It won't open, even if the car is unlocked, without it on my '13. Can you pop it with the fob remotely?

The FOB works as well as the button on the dash. The Fob is in my pocket and the rear button doesn't do anything. The key will open it and set off the alarm.

Maybe dirt if the button....mine was the same way. Found a thread on here on how to take it apart and it works fine now.

I'll try to find the thread again....but I searched on "hatch button not working" I think

Bad switch, probably. Should be an easy fix at the Dealer to replace the whole unit. Why screw around, that's why we have warranties.

They get dirt in them. You may have to disassemble and clean.

Hm...

Ok, you push the hatch button on the FOB, trunk opens, right?
You push the trunk button on the dash, trunk opens, right?

Go to the rear with the FOB in your pocket, push the button next to the license plate and nothing happens?

Either clean the push button assembly or replace the push button assembly. I cleaned mine once, the 2nd time it argued with me, I replaced the button switch with a new one (pretty cheap) and all is good.

You will need to remove the passenger side inboard tailight to get at the wiring & switch. Disconnect the wire first. Squeeze the tabs at the base of the switch and push down to pop out the switch and catch it next to the license plate. Be careful disassembling it as you might break some tabs and have a mess. If you're all thumbs, buy a new switch:

The outside button on our 2009 quit working after a few months, I used talon90's instructions to clean it but that did nothing. Replaced under warranty and good for the last 4 yrs/55k miles.

I could swear I can open the hatch with that switch without the fob when car is unlocked, but will try one of these days to make sure .

OMG! I've had that car for almost 9 years and never knew about a button back there. Is it next to the key switch? Now I've gotta go find it for nothing more than curiosity.

To the right of the keyhole is a round rubber button, just like on the doors, except it pops the hatch.

I knew it was there, but either never pushed the button in the right place, or mine doesn't work. You almost have to stand on your head to see it .... Also haven't found the key hole ....

The keyhole is just to the left of the rubber button. You have to have the Key Fob within X amount of feet, like in your pocket, same as the doors.

Thanks for the good replies RookWV and eboggs_jkvl. That is what I was looking for. I will try to clean it out later in the week or this week end.

Sounds like some people didn't read the owner's manual!

To be quite honest I've bought 14 vehicles in the last 10 years and I don't have time to read all those manuals. If its important I'll find it... That button has not been important.
