well guys, just bought a vette about 2 weeks ago and its all stock, looking to do a few bolt ons, nothing major. im wanting a exhaust, but im not looking to get the car tuned right off the bat. If I do a full system, I want to go with headers, and get a catted h pipe, and mufflers. my question is, if I get headers with cats, would I have any check engine lights? I know with proper tuning I wont have any but its not gonna get tuned for a little while and I don't wanna deal with engine lights lol. (yes im picky). to where as if I get a axle/cat back such as SLP loudmouth, I shouldn't have any check engine lights if I keep the factory h pipe and manifolds on correct? BTW I have a 2005 corvette.
as soon as you move or delete the cats you will get a CEL. it has to do with the reading the rear 02 sees or does not see. with just a catback all you gain is sound, no real performance. a CAI sometimes trips the CEL due to the increased air flow by the MASS. some cars have a hard time adjusting but some don't.
ok, that's what I figured. I want more sound, but while im switching it out, I should just do a full system and be done with it. anyone know any good tuners in PA, or Maryland? im about 2 hours south of Pittsburgh.
Congrats on your purchase. I have a 07 with the stainless Bassani cat back exhaust. I love it! The sound is perfect for people who like a great sounding system that has great sound from idle to wot but isn't to loud at cruise. many good products out there it just depends on what your goals are.
I went with a Zr1 mufflers with ls7 manifolds and zr1 xpipe which sounded like a demon when it was open and very quiet when closed also no CEL. I then went to kooks headers and a catted Xpipe and by far was the best sound I've heard from a vette screamed when open and when closed it was quiet enough to drive grandma to church on sunday.
