Default Disconnect Fuel Line

I want to purchase some body colored FRCs but don't want to scratch the painted surface when installing and removing the driver side cover. Can you disconnect the fuel line to remove and replace the left/driver side fuel rail cover without any problems? If so, then which end should I disconnect?

Thanks!

You can, but I would recommend putting 3M painters tape on not to scratch the paint. I installed the GM painted covers on my LS2 and that worked fine.

If you are afraid of the paint cracking or something like that, let the car st for a day (to reduce the pressure in the line) and remove it at the rail.

you don't want to spill fuel on them. I would suggest either letting them sit in the sun for a few hours, or after running the engine then opening the hood and lay them in the hot engine compartment for a while. the heat will make them more flexible and they will slide on pretty easy. if you want, use some painters tape on the edges of the seam.

Use the Schrader valve on the driver's side fuel rail to release the pressure in fuel line--looks like tire valve stem and works the same, press core to release pressure. Then unhook fuel line and you have no worry about paint on FRC's. A little fuel will escape when you press Schrader valve so a rag will come in handy.

I like your way better than mine. I forgot about the valve!

Thanks everyone for the input. I will try the Schrader valve trick and see what happens.
