Default 06 DIC Issue

Helping a friend with a 06 base coupe.

There is no message showing up on the driver information center.
With no fob near the car and pressing the start button i expected to see a message "no fob detected?"
But the DIC is just blank.

I have checked all the fuses and also checked to make sure the gauge cluster and DIC controls were plugged up.

Any tips or ideas would be helpful

Try getting a new battery or do a load charge test on the old one. Many auto parts stores will check it for free. Sounds like gremlins at work. Good luck! Bat Pig out.

Still having issues. Any other ideas?

New battery + battery charger (to keep it topped off)
checked fuses - IGN SW/INTR SENS,GM LAN RUN/CRNK, CLSTR/HUD and replaced the mini-relay #43 for Crank

The start/acc button lights up just nothing on the gauge cluster. When i press the start button, i hear a fast ticking sound from the center of the dash above the radio. I assume thats the Remote/anti-theft unit.

double checked to make sure the 3 plugs on the cluster were plugged in and the DIC controls were plugged up.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If not already done, you might check all the battery connections; including the big cable into the starter under the car.

Could also use a voltmeter to check voltage on the battery terminals themselves, and then at some other points to see if there is a big drop. However, a poor connection might allow normal voltage but bog down undeer load.

A little history please. What was being done to the car prior to having this problem? and, when last was the car acting normally?

I will definitely double check the voltages at the battery ,maybe the engine fuse box, interior fuse box also.

What are the chances the whole dash cluster died?

all the exterior lights work, headlights low&high, parking lights, interior lights, start button lights, etc...
Just nothing on the cluster.

Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated!

When he purchased the and it had previously been taken some what apart. so, unfortunately the history is unknown.
A lot of the interior had been taken out and some of the electronics were missing. All of the relays in the engine fuse box were missing and the antennas for the remote key fob were gone also.

We're trying to get it put back together so he can get a key fob programmed for it.

Wow, with that kind of history it's almost impossible to give you any advice. Has the car ever run since you've had it? You are probably pretty much on your own at this point with lots of trial and error in trying to put it back together. Wish I could be more helpful.

Thanks, yeah its difficult to troubleshoot.

No the car has not been started, trying to get the DIC to work so we can program a key fob and then probably troubleshoot some more. Lol

Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

I'm sure you will need a repair or service manual with wiring diagrams. The one I have cost around $100 eight years ago. It's the official Corvette Service Manual. Published by North American Operations, General Motors Corp. Warren, Michigan 48090.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Are you sure you have a BCM? You know about the fuse box under the passenger floor right? That's the one that controls the interior electronics, it's mounted to the BCM. If you get a working BCM the IPC should work. If you don't have a BCM then your Start Button isn't hooked to anything (all key info goes thru the BCM, it's the brain of the standard electronics like lights, keys, chimes, etc).

Thanks for the replies guys!

This is the BCM, correct? two blue plugs and the big orange plug?

What is IPC? *edit, ah.. Instrument panel cluster*

Whats the best way to test to see if the BCM is working (with out a key fob)?
headlights low&high work, exterior lights work. trunk pulldown works

when i push the start button, i hear a fast ticking sound (about 5-6 ticks) coming from the center air vent area above the radio. I assume this is the keyless/anti-theft module?

Thank you again for all the help

That is the BCM, and the clicking is the car searching for a key. You have to stick unlearned keys into the slot in the glove box. But yes, the headlamp switch should work even when the car is off.

Okay, Thanks!

If the BCM were shot would the exterior lights, horn and trunk release, and gas door release still function?

also to test the IPC, if i check the voltage on the Red/white wire and am getting +12 and check the ground wire.
What else can i check to see if the IPC has died?

Thanks for all the help guys!

BCM controls anything body related, so locks, exterior lights, interior lights, and windows. If any of that works the BCM is probably fine. The IPC should communicate with the BCM on the class 2 network, you need to have that network all put together or else things might not work right.

In looking at the wiring diagrams, I found the following:

Fuse #11 (15A) engine compartment.
This fuse is for the ECM/TCM Easy Key, which looks like a circuit for the push button start.
It may not hurt to check to see if this fuse is OK.

It's a shot in the dark

Good Luck

I'll double check fuse #11

would the start button light up if this fuse were blown?

Thanks,
Chris
