Well, I guess I can't complain too much as this is my first major other than normal maintenance I've had to get done for an 05 with 97K miles. Found out today the transmission is leaking and the whole thing has to come out to replace a gasket. Parts are $100 and the book says it is a 12 hour job which jacks the price up to $1700. Expensive day!

How bad is the leak? I've seen some drips coming from mine every once in a while for a few years now but the fluid level is still good (kind of an oxymoron I guess) No issues so far. I've read about a few other members with similar drips too. Is yours a full blown leak or just some minor dripping?
It was leaking to the point where there was a fluid on my garage floor. When I looked underneath, I could see a good amount of transmission fluid on the bottom of the car. It never affected how the car shifted though.
I got it back from the dealer after three days. I asked them for a military discount and was out the door for a hair over $1,500. I don't think that's too bad considering they had to remove the whole rear end and transmission to put in a new gasket. That's not a job that I would want to attempt.
Funny thing though. They weren't going to give me a loaner car at first. I asked, really? You told me I'm going to be charged $1,500 and you're going to keep it and no loaner? They gave me one after I guilted them. I was a pink (yes pink) Chevy Sonic. The crap I caught at work and the looks I got around town was pretty funny though.
Oh well, the car is fixed! They steam cleaned the bottom of the car where the leak was and you can't even tell there was a leak. Probably cheaper to get fixed then to let it go and face more expensive problems in the future!
Yep, I agree about sooner than later. Car is not being driven much right now and I just haven't had the time to investigate. Glad to hear yours is like new.
