I got a dash message saying something like....and this is the problem I already forgot what it said.
I have a MN6 2008 and down shifted skipping a couple of gears, maybe 4500 rpm and the car felt like it went into neutral. Meaning engine braking was controlled somewhat.
I know I have down shifted at a higher rpm before but this is the first time the nannies came on.
I thought I would remember the message but FAILED again with CRS.
Any ideas?
I do not think I popped the clutch and pavement was dry. I do not remember the message relating to traction either.
The system is designed to reduce engine braking if the car is downshifted into a low gear such that the rear wheels would tend to lock up. A message is displayed for a couple of seconds when it engages. This may be what you saw..and it would not store a code.

The message is ENGINE DRAG CONTROL ACTIVE.
That message comes up when you have tires that are not the stock front to rear height ratio when you do engine braking, particularly at higher engine speeds.
It would also come up if the OP went from 6 to 4th and popped the clutch going into 4th, "barking" the rear tires. The car will try to prevent you barking the tires upon downshifts as it can be dangerous on slippery surfaces.

Bingo! And thanks for posting.
And Joe G. Was correct too in that I went from 6th to 4th, but I did not pop the clutch nor did I rev match though.
Tires are stock sizes on stock rims.
I do this often and even have at a higher rpm but this time the message appeared.
