I'm considering changing the air filter housing on our 2011 Grand Sport LS3. The "Snake Oil" claims and HP numbers ,make my head spin !
Suggestions for decent replacement filter without cutting up the engine bay. I would like to improve the performance and enjoy the LS 3 exhaust note also, wet weather driveabilty with the filter system.
If you don't do Vararam the only other reasonable option is to get a stock LS7 intake.
There is only a personal opinion cosmetic and sound difference between the LS3 and LS7 intakes. Power related performance is not changed. I do agree that the Vararam is the most widely used real CAI on the quickest cars. All advertising aside, the results speak for themselves.

most vette owners never take out of the garage if any signs of rain are in the forecast so you can drive in deep puddles but really i do and purposely drive in the puddles at a high rate of speed to clean the bottom off, and never had a problem

OK then listen to dennis, install the low ground sucking air scoop and drive thru puddles.

its not that low, but i wouldn't drive thru deep water or a stream, If your old enough to remember when the broncoII 4x4 came out, the owners manual says don't drive in water deeper then 8". ridiculous for a 4x4. also a stock air intake hydro locked in a c6, all I know is I have had the vararam CAI on my car since 2005 thats 8 years if my math is correct. driving year round in the northeast and even hurricane Sandy, summer storms snow and just now to the store, its been raining all day, and no problems, So now just what is your personal experience with this product, I believe it is a big fat 0, none. the original poster asked a question, you have the stock air intake or z06 intake so you have driven a few miles with that setup so you cant really even comment on that.
The Vararam is a possibility. The Vararam website did not show the extent of trimming the shroud. I like the design !
Or the K&N #63-3073.

you trim the width and straight down to the rail both sides and remove, and close to the top, you can get a pre cut shrow but the shrow is easy to cut and they give you a template, you can see it a little in this picture.
