Hi I think you need to fly cut for any size came, I dont no the size of my cam, but the pistons were flycut, I think its a stage 2x or 3x as I had the stock valves re seated with a serdi valve job, it passed n.j. state inspection , has no surging and ran a best of
and this is the dyno its an automatic

because the valve timing changes from the cam and milling of the heads, both change the piston to valve clearance

There are several Trick Flow heads that do not require fly cutting for even very aggressive cams because they have different valve angles then OEM heads. Not cheap though.

Julio (Cartek) just finished building me a 403" motor with a Callies forged 4" stroker crank, ported 243 heads, & their 3x cam, They used Weisco (sp) pistons, Manley forged rods, FAST 102 intake and did not have to fly cut them..

Its still hasn't been tuned (its getting a roll bar installed) but I should have a HP # by Fri....

He's running the 4X cam and of course the after market pistons (Weisco) can have custom valve reliefs and compression ratios not needing fly cutting.

^^^Some are just gifted and consistent over the years - its not the car but the person behind it! Very admirable!

Some other can drive the same car with different results!
