I need to replace my driver side mirror (thank you lady who backed into me while I was stuck between two cars despite my laying on the horn for 10 seconds) on my 2007 C6 Z51. The last 8 digits of my vin are: 75107150
This pulls up a replacement mirror with part number: 15795839
The mirror assembly is $750 dealer price. However, there are two other models:
15795837 ($294 dealer) and 15795835 ($253 dealer)
Turns out the mirror for my car (15795839) has an XM antenna in the mirror (this is a dealer design) while 15795835 has no antenna. 15795837 has "some kind of antenna" but so far no dealer's parts department has been able to tell me what that might be.
So here's the deal: I purchased the upgraded sound system with the car and then sold the 6 disc changer and switched it with a Pioneer XM Navigation unit. I do not use XM radio and have no plans to use XM radio in the future. Do I need to buy the outrageously expensive mirror (15795839) due to some sort of electrical hookup or fit issue or can I just replace it with 15795837?
I've talked to West Coast Dorvette, D&B Corvette, and several dealer parts departments and no one knows the answer. I know I can get cheaper prices online - but am just using the dealer price as a reference for my question.
Insurance is SOMEHOW contesting it and I don't feel like waiting. My deductible is $500. Can't wait around driving with no side mirror in southern california. It's like asking to die in your car.
ebay $150 - $200 on average many colors to choose from.
Yes, I see them on ebay but no one will respond to my inquiries about which mirror (part number) they are. You can also get them brand new on GM Parts direct for about that price. The question is - can I use part number 15795837 and/or 15795835. E.G. Is the ONLY difference the XM antenna.
As an FYI the mirror housing is still available and the glass isn't broken. What isn't working is the motor that moves the mirror up and down so it is stuck in the down position. Is it possible just to buy new internals?
can you hear the motor turn inside the mirror ? if you can, then the little legs may have just been knocked out and can be pushed back in. try Corvette recyclers in Utah, they may have a used mirror they can sell you.
