i am having trouble shifting from first to second gear, it is worse when the car is warmed up. is it a clutch or syncro problem? when i am in any other gear i can go back into second with no problem, help please. thanks
Could be the shifter box. The mount bushings for the box that are between the box and the torque tube will crack and deteriorate with age and heat, allowing the box move and cause shifting problems. Quite common after several years of use. There are also rubber bushings inside the box that the shift rod slides through which also can have the same thing happen which will allow lateral movement and shift problems. The only way to know if that's your problem is to pull the center console/radio bezel and inspect the box. The mount bushings are sold by several vendors, the shift rod bushings aren't and require replacing the entire box.
If you decide to take it into the dealership and would like my assistance, just shoot me over a PM. I can give them a call and get things set up for you.
Keep us all posted on the outcome regardless. Hopefully it is a quick fix for you!
Shouldn't this Vette have the 1-4 lockout? Why not try a little more 'aggressive' 1st gear driving? Hold it in 1st a little longer before shifting. Or get the throttle open a little farther in 1st before shifting. Those are a couple of cheap driver tests before spending money at a dealership.
