I took mine out to install a 'Vetteair', and found out it was a lot easier to pop the pins out than to pop them back in.
I ended up jacking the front of car up, removing the piece behind the grill so I could guide the pins in with my fingers wile pushing them in with a large bladed screwdriver from outside the grill.
Hope this helps.

I had a heck of a time as well with this helping a buddy with a z06 years ago. I finally removed the screws for the air dam and lowered the panel below the grill and then I could finally get the pins back in. Seemed like more work than was necessary but it got the job done.
