I have a 2006 convertable with f55 shocks. My R/F is leaking alittle. Can I get by with just changing R/F one or do I need to change both front ones??
How much is a "little"? My 07 has 6,157 miles on it and about two years ago i noticed the L/R had some road dust on it (my car has never been in weather and resides 7 feet up on a lift so the underside looks like the day it was born). I got nervous and wiped it off but it didn't seem like an "active" leak. I talked to GM and they said that some light "seepage" is normal and o.k.. Well, since wiping it down two years ago the car has traveled less than 200 miles...I just went out to check and the damper has a very, very, very light film from the boot moving down 2". I continue to be "not worried" about it. If alot of F55 cars were carefully inspected my guess is that more than a few would have the same "seepage". FWIW.
Not for sure. my 2006 has 52000 miles I drive it alot in the summer. I live in Iowa. I don't know alot about cars just like them alot. In Sept took it to local GM shop for oil change and they told me my R/F shock was leaking. I guess when I get it out of storage I'll take it back down and ask more questions. Thanks for the help
i just picked up an 08 with 93k on it and all four are leaking. rears worse than the fronts. but all four.. Change them as they leak. don't wait or instead of a 6-700 repair it'll be a $2,000+ repair like i'm experiencing now.
The shocks perform well from what i can tell. no "banging" or noises coming from the suspension and the rears are leaking ALOT... so kudos to gm for a tough set of shocks just wish they were cheaper (by alot lol)

Same here. My '12 GS has 5,400 miles now. I've wiped them 3 times already, and there seems to be less and less film on them. Never a trace of a drip or anything like that. And if I lift the boots, the top of the shocks are all bone-dry, so it's the cap, not the rod seal. Just a little oily surface. The rear shocks didn't have any film after the 2nd wiping. The fronts after the 3rd. It's probably from overpressure IMO. I was told it's normal too. If there's any indication of a drip, get them replaced for sure. I'll continue to keep an eye on them; still have over a year left on full warranty.
