Default Time to REBUILD or Replace LS7!

Tonight I did a compression test on my 2008 Z06 and found out It is down on compression on number 1 cylinder and number 6 is not much better. I am certain the rings are the culprit. The car has 90k on it so its due for a rebuild anyway.

I have a few options. I can pull the engine, get it bored and honed and add some forged pistons, a cam, send the heads off to wcch, add a intake and TB.

or

I could just order a forged lsx 454 long block for 10.5k and stick it in the car and be done with it.

My question is, will all my LS7 accessories bolt up and work on the LSX 454? I know I will need a tune but thats not an issue.

The LSX 454 is a steel block and I do not believe that it has the crank that will accept the dry sump pump.

Crap! you are right!

Ok well have you ever heard of Blueprint Engines? They offer a LS7 completely forged 625 hp drop in replacement for 9 grand with a 50k warranty.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ml.../applications/

Im thinking if I go this way, My car will not be down long and I can rebuild the LS7 in the car now over time to the specs I want with either twin Turbos or a nice Blower.

Just my opinion, since the picture shows the block painted orange, my bet it is steel and I bet the heads are LS3. Also, the crank issue does not appear to be resolved.

You need this one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/na...4098/overview/

Ok looks like Ill make some calls tomorrow. It says its a direct replacement for the LS7 but you are probably right. It would probably be cheaper to rebuild the engine in the car anyway. I was just thinking about the down time. The current ls7 isnt hurt to bad. Still runs fine so Im sure its just wore out from having 90k on it.

The stock crank and rods are good for some serious power so maybe forged pistons, cam and heads are the way to go. I cant imagine a rebuild running more than 7-8 grand if I do most of the work here at the house. Thats including the intake, and stage 2 heads from WCCH ofcourse.

The description says a replacement for a base LS engine. The intake looks like an L92 and will be to tall for your car.

What is your location?

Im in central Wisconsin.

Do you know anything about reusing the titanium Rods in the Ls7? I was talking to a buddy and he said he read somewhere that guys were having issues and replacing them too. Guess its more research to do. Like I said, this is my first LS base engine rebuild but not my first SBC rebuild. So please bare with me.
