Has anyone here bought a back up PCM for their Z06 to stick back in there if something breaks... I am having some mods done along with a tune, and I only have 300 miles on my 2013 Z06. Or maybe buy a new PCM, put it in, have "it" tuned and then if something happens, stick the original back in... ??? I talked to a friend of mine who works at Chevy, he told me bolt on mods don't void the warranty, but the tune does... How much is a new PCM. Any thoughts ?
sorry I can't answer your question. however...if I was contemplating something of this nature and was gonna post it I wouldn't have my location listed...just saying
Your 'friend' is only telling you half the story, I would do more research about mods.
As for the PCM, you could use a spare, but what do you do about any CELs? Second, the PCM records the engine clock, so if your miles don't correlate.... guess what.
Third, if you have a a major failure and the PCM has no failure codes at the time of death, guess what?
And they can't 'void' your warranty, only deny repairs.

As usual "some" people will say you can pull it off and it is undetectable and leaves no trace. Problem is these same people aren't in charge of the dealerships and warranty denial.
I have thought about this also. I'm getting ready to put a A&A supercharger on and I also have a 2013 Z06.. All I can say is that if GM wants to be able to tell if a car was tuned or not they will. Bottom line is that if you want to play be prepared to pay.. By the way I love the color of your Z. It is the nicest color Corvette GM has ever made.. Lol
I had a highly modified 97 SS Camaro with a 383 LT4. My tuner provided a back-up OBDI PCM that I could run along with my OEM OBDII. The main reason was to pass NC smog inspections, but not necessarily for warranty purposes. That all worked well for me at the time, but I think glenB provides some wise advice regarding warranty repairs. Fortunately I got the "mod my car until my pockets are empty" thing out of my system years ago and have no plans to mod my ZR1.
