Default Quaife Differential

Wanted to get the forum's opinion on the quaife differential. I currently have a 2010 C6 vette and am looking to upgrade the differential to either the A6 stage 3 or A6 stage 4 (want the 3.42 ring and pinion).

I currently am wanting to know about drivability on the street. Has anyone had any issues with wheel hop/ "chattering"/ outside wheel dragging during turns?

I also want to know if it is needed to run an aftermarket diff cooler with the quaife?

Thanks forum crew and look forward to the info.

I have one. No clutch packs to deal with and they are really strong.

I have had zero issues with it. The biggest issue is the price of admission. I build a whole a diff and used ZR1 diff cooler. If you go that way, you will need to have the pinion machined to accept the pump. you will also need a European Z51 drivers side cover because of the cooler. Not sure if you need the cooler or not, but I would use a high quality lube like Red Line that will take more heat than normal lube.

I know a lot of the Viper guys swear by Quaife diffs for when the stock diff isn't enough.

I've had a Quaiffe differential in only one vehicle, my SRT4. It worked fine, no wear as in the clutch material of a clutch type limitedslip. Street drivability was fine.

Wheel hop/chattering usually isn't caused by the differential, it's a suspension problem.

Use a cooler only if you are doing lots of track time, a cooler isn't needed for street use.

The A6 has pretty aggressive gearing, I'd go with a 3.15 with the diff. I had a 3.42 difff with an A6 and I believe a 3.15 would have been better.

The Quaife will be an great diff for a drag race car as it has already been said there are no clutches to wear out. Since the differential does not rely on a clutch and heavy spring to load the second tire you will not experience the hoping and skipping of tires while turning. Since there are no clutches the car tends to go straighter down the track also.

3.15 and 3.42 are both good ratios the 3.42 will be the biggest gain in the 1/4 but will lose some more fuel mileage and will make the car less traction friendly on the street

You guys are the maters! I got most of my parts from RPM, including the machining on the pinion gear.

Thanks or all the input. I have ordered my diff and have decided on the 3.42's as they will run better on the track. I feel that with all the mods I currently have (supercharger/cam/fuel system) 650RWHP street driving is already pretty crazy so what is a bit more... again thanks for all the input

Great! 650 is really good. I only have 574 and it is fun, 650 should be really fun! Maybe I need a blower.....
