Just curious if anyone else had a rear axle boot failure on a low mileage C6. I found a small hole - more like a pinch in the boot - in the boot which was flinging grease on the back of the wheel and rear caliper. With 11,000 miles on a 2012, I found it odd.
Had a local dealer tell me it was not a warranty issue....

Check your warranty. There's not much that's not covered.
Challenge your dealer. Ask him to show you it's specifically not covered.
I had a similar failure on my ZO6. One of the rear tie rod end seals failed (tear in the rubber boot). The failure mode was similar to yours, i.e., throwing grease on the inside of the rear wheel. I returned the car for repair. No problem, the tech replaced the tie rod end under warranty.
When I had my 2007 Z, I had a boot rip and get grease over everything including the wheel. My dealer repaired it and cleaned the car with no questions asked.
BTW: the car was in the first year and had very low mileage.
Thanks - for the input. I bought the car used from a Ford Dealer. Took it to the local Chevy dealer who wanted $1,800 for the axle, installation and new brake pads. Absolutely refused to cover it under warranty... told me it was ripped open, which is not a manufacturer's defect. That dealer was Silver Star Chevy in Thousand Oaks. Who also charged me to inspect the car and returned it filthy. They will never get me to go back!
I crawled under the car to see the rip and found a puncture hole the size of a nail (1/2 the thickness of a pencil).
Reluctantly, I called the selling dealer who sold me the car As-Is only with the manufacturer's warranty, which they did not represent. They invited me to bring the car back... He took it in and in 2 days I got the car back tonight - new axle (with boots) and cleaned up... no new brake pads. Seems that Galpin Ford earned their reputation of being the number 1 Ford dealer in the world by customer service! They sent it to Key's Chevy who did all the work. They treated me as if they were the "selling" dealer who wants to earn my continued business.
Just shows how easily a dealer can lose credibility.
Our 2001 C5 had a similar failure at around 20k miles, the dealership had no problems fixing it under warranty, but the part was on indefinite backorder.
Without asking me, the dealership replaced the entire half shaft under warranty and somehow made the paperwork look good.
It's no wonder so many of us have a sour taste for Chevy dealership tales/non-service. Silver Star Chevy should be flagged by the Chevy Rep who monitors the forum and run up the chain of command.
Glad you had a FORD Dealer who took the ball and ran with it. There are a few good guys out there.
