Where is the ignition system ground (fighting p0300)

What does the computer actually have to see to set off the misfire code? In other words how does it know that its misfiring?

So it is now narrowed to what seems to be cylinder 6 as it has now thrown the code at idle for that particular one. If that number 6 is misfiring when getting on the throttle sporadically would it cause p0300?

Additionally it seems that at idle (started it up and let it sit there) the cats are getting up to about 1,250 degrees F if that makes a difference

do a good visual on all exhaust components and then do an exhaust back pressure test with back pressure gage.should be 2 psi. move number 6 coil,plug and wire to opposite side of engine
