Default Smoke Roof

My smoked roof is starting to crack near the passanger side window frame. I bought the car new in 2006, so I know the history. The car only had 14K on it.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks!

That was unfortunately common on the 2006 cars, and I think 2007 also.

Our 2006 had three transparent tops crack, each within about 5k miles of being installed, same place as yours. The factory original, and the next two replacments. The dealership tech was pulling his hair out trying to figure out what was incorrectly adjusted or stressing the top, but everything seemed normal. Except for the cracks. So the dealership warranty guy said "We're just going to keep throwing tops at it until one of them sticks." The fourth one was installed at about 25k miles and was still perfect when we sold the car at 44k miles.

Later, it was reported here that some kind of manufacturing defect in the tops was causing the cracks.

Good luck on finding a good/cheap replacement.

I have an 06, and my top has had no cracking issues.
Mine does have the spider web crazing, but I take full responsibility for that.
I'll be buying a new top (without hardware) for around $700.00 when GMpartshouse puts them on sale again.

Just thought? Would your insurance cover that due to a physical crack???? I'd certainly check if I were you.

Good Luck

The cracks are about an inch long and there are two of them. My car insurance is so cheap, not sure I want to play that card, but it us a good idea!

Thanks

If your insurance covers glass, then it may cover the top, It's worth a try.

I don't suppose epoxy would work or that new clear tube of "as seen on tv." Plus, they'd probably look bad.

Drill a hole to stop the crack and the fill it clear "as seen on TV" stuff!

I want a carbon roof, and this may turn into a reason to get one.
