I know this has been kicked around before and I'm not trying to start a bashing game on lubricants but I'm going to change the trans (manual) and differential fluid on my 2013 GS (5,000 miles on car) and want to know what is the best fluid to use in each. I'm leaning toward using whatever GM recommends but I don't know or have any information on what fluids if any would be better. Thanks in advance for your help.
The GM fluids seem to work very well. In particular, the GM LS Gear Lube for the differential seems to have tons of happy customers, no additional additives required nor permitted.
I've got the A6, so no experience with the stick shift.
I am saying I am sorry in advance for this but when I saw the title of the thread this is the first thing that came to my mind.
The title "Need advice on lubricants"
Uncensored first thought is "Considering it is for a Corvette I would recommend a lubricant with a numbing agent butt even then it may sting or hurt depending on where you "Take it" end thought"
Sorry, it just seems a lot of times you can call and say I need a quart of your best oil and they will say ok, that is $11.99 a quart. Then you call back and say I need a quart of the best oil you have for my Corvette and they say ok, that is $49.99 a quart.
Honestly I feel that is the case too many times. Sorry about the off topic post, maybe I should sometimes not put thoughts into readable words. Hopefully someone got a chuckle out of it or knows how I feel.
Ernie, thanks a lot........not many people understand or want to go to the expense of changing any fluids at 5000 miles but I've been doing this all my life (I'm 67) and have NEVER had a drive train problem. Corvettes, Porsches, Mustangs, Trans Am's, Original 66' GTO, etc.. I just want to make sure I put the best possible fluid in the car.
On a serious note. I think it is a great idea to flush and fill all your fluids. I know some things have a special break in lubricant and then a different one after that time. Corvettes may or may not but a flush and fill IMHO is a good investment. And to put my money where my mouth is I had my C6 Corvette serviced by the dealer in February and needed a new oil sending unit and a new SDM for my airbag light and a wheel speed sensor harness replaced, while they had it I had them flush and fill my coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid and differential fluid.
I do the flush and fill on the motor oil myself so this way I know all fluids are not only at proper levels but also are clean and new.
Lubricants no matter who they are made by suffer from heat, dirt, condensation, wear and other things that can harm or reduce their effectiveness.
If I were you I would have it done and be glad you did. It is an investment worth every penny IMO.

ok right now the best for a manual in a corvette is Redline D6ATE
best for the differential is probably the GM
I'M using Redline there also the 75w90 GL5
On the other hand I did the first diff fluid change on my 03 Tahoe last summer. 11 years old with 95K miles with a fair amount of trailer pulling. AWD so there are 2 diffs. Still going strong. In 50 years of owning cars have only had to replace 2 diffs. One on my 68 Olds and one on my 97 C5.
