Need Help Failed Inspection today-engine light on guy at the shop said he cleared the engine light but came on again he know says I need a sensor that's in my gas pedal anyone know where its located and where to get one and can I do it my self
Did he tell you, do you know, what the specific code is?
The C6 being a drive by wire, aka there is no mechanical connection between the gas pedal and throttle blade, it's done by the computer. The accelerator pedal is basically a rheostat. What's in it is the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor.
Usually when it goes bad the car can't be driven. That's why I ask if you know the exact code.
Not sure if '05 and '08 are the same but when my (one of two) sensors went out in the gas pedal assembly, my car went into limp mode---from 65 to about 45, missing, service messages, reduced speed message. Dealer said pedal has two sensors on mine, better to replace whole/both. They did. If you didn't have those symptoms I'm a bit surprised.

no he did not give me the code but I will ask him tomorrow he said it was that or some other sensor that has to do with the pedal do you know what that would be

do you know what the second sensor was other then the pedal
No, I don't; sorry. But it is all in the gas pedal and the tech said, if one goes, who knows when the other might, too. Maybe that's the easy way out, but it did kind of make sense at the time.
If he cannot give you the error code, then go up to your local parts store (o'rielly, napa, autozone, etc). Have them hook up the scanner and get the codes. Then come back here and post up the codes for us...we can figure it out from there.
In TX, if the check engine light is illuminated, they won't even start the inspection process - automatic fail. Which is hilarious since they never check to see which CEL errors have been completely disabled....

Not to sound silly but what is the reasoning for checking the instrument cluster other than mileage?
Sorry - I have no insight into why politicians do what they do. I always assumed they think they are being smart in that the CEL will alert a technician to smog equipment issues....but in reality they are pretty stupid to not know that I can disable just about anything thru the tune.
Maybe they are just keeping the honest...honest ( or so the saying goes).

All the tested also have to be completed. If you clear a code you have to drive enough for the test to complete and pass.
I've never heard of failed inspection due to CEL. Is it one of your state laws instrumental panel is checked?
That is how it is in Milwaukee. You have a light, you don't pass. You can have the cats off, put out all kinds of nasty stuff, but if the light doesn't come on, you pass.

I looked at gas pedal but see no sensor
there is a sensor on your throttle pedal assembly. the other is on your throttle body.I just purchased a new throttle pedal assembly for a spare.new OEM are available for $44. if you look for one.gas pedal assembly with bracket and sensor p/n 25835421. if you can remove 2 bolts and unplug 6 pin connector you should be able to do it yourself
