Default Oil leaks

2009 LS/3 with 9000 miles on it and I discovered oil spots under the car. not much but enough to **** me off. I haven't investigated or tried to find the source as yet just thought someone might have the same concern and know what the problem is? I have to believe that if something leaks then something is wrong.

Upon talking to the previous owner of my 09 LS3 last night, he had a very slight leak from the oil pan previously. He took it to the dealer and they changed it out, no problem since...

Check to make sure the oil filter is on tight. Mine was leaking and it makes it look like other areas are leaking.

I had the same problem a year ago, just a few small drops of oil. Knowing the history of the LS series engine oil pan gasket leak issue from this Forum which GM never addressed, I took it to the dealer as I was still covered under my extended warranty.

Sure enough, it was small but was the infamous pan gasket leak and was repaired under warranty. This is usually a $700 to $800 job by the dealer so I was lucky enough to have it happen with 6 months left on my warranty.

Yeah, thats what broken or poorly maintained machines do. Who wants oil all over the garage floor?

If not covered under warranty (or you don't want to have the oil pan removed), you can clean the oil pan, determine which oil pan bolts it is leaking around, remove those bolts, put in sealant and put bolts back in. This has worked for a number of people.

One of my fun toys is a modified '90 Yamama FZR 1000 crouch rocket for carving canyon roads we have here.

I bought it in '89. Although loads been spent on sticky tires and quality chains but not a drop of oil or coolant on the ground, nor noticeable seepage between mating seams since.

Its a machine, go figure, right?

Default Pan Gasket

I have a 2009 I bought new that developed an oil leak after about a year. The dealer was very good and put die in the oil to see where leak was. Said it was oil pan gasket and they tightened the bolts and it was fixed for a few months but cane back. This time dealer replaced oil pan gasket and no problem sense.

2006 Z06 LS7 with 4,400 miles + design of dry sump oiling system = oil pan gasket failure due to lack of lubrication

Cost to repair: $995.00.

Note to self: start car at least once every 2 weeks

I've noticed in the last few months drops on the garage floor, oil level really hasn't moved so it must be slight. Got under it yesterday, checked whatever bolts I could reach and all seemed tight. Pan, drain plug and filter were a little wet, most of the oil was on that black "brace" that runs across the car, seems like it's right under the front seal. Cleaned everything off, I'll watch it. From what's been posted here the gasket seems to be a common problem, anyone know anything about the seals going bad? Thanks! Car is an '05 with 26K on it...

Oil pan gasket is common. Just had my 09 done under warranty. All good now.

So, the bolt holes go through to inside the block?
Is that why the bolts need sealant?
