Default Feedback on OBX header install

Hi Everyone,

Thought I would post up my experience with my recent OBX header purchase install. I have seen a decent amount of threads regarding these headers so felt this could be useful.

I bought the headers from BER for a great price and reached out to Dr. Phil to do the install/tune. BER was quick to reply to my questions and you could tell he wanted the business, so I went with him. Phil's cool, does a great job, and really knows his stuff.

Phil stated the fit was ok. Flange needed some grinding at the bolt holes and the clamps are a joke, but they made it on the car. After a 24 hr turnaround time I was on my way.

First reaction with NPP closed was wow, its pretty quiet. A tad louder than stock, but after coming from B&B PRT's on my c5, still whisper quiet to me. Then I laid into it around 50 MPH.... and holy ****. It was like satan came out of the car. Once the baffles opened, it was almost shocking how much louder the car got. Trust me, if you lay into it, everybody around you is going to look/know/run/hide. Not to mention how hard this car pulls for 2 bolt-ons. Very similar to my sprayed LS1 corvette.

I wanted to get a video of the sound in and out, but after high 70's yesterday, we are expecting 1-3 inches of snow tonight. So maybe later in the week. My overall impression? Well I'd have to say I felt pretty good about dropping less than half the $$$ of the name brand headers with these results. This car has the best of both worlds. A nice refined ride then all hell breaking loose when you want it.

Sounds good. I have mine for sale because of some medical bills, but I might be able to hang onto them. How much did it cost you for the install? I was quoted roughly $400 for labor.

Hopefully you can, you'll like them. Especially w/ that extra $800 in your pocket

Phil hooked me up on the install and re-tune, wasn't even $400

Just recently picked up an 08 Z51, came with corsa exhaust and some brand/custom x pipe. Headers are next on my list, the obx brand are long tubes? Where in the exhaust do they clamp on?

Yes they are long tubes. They will run from your engine all the way back to your mufflers/axle area, if that helps.

WOW! That's crazy cheap! I was quoted another $400 for a tune so with parts and labor the total was $1000.

I have to do some looking around to find a deal like yours. I did make some progress on my medical bills, so I might be able to get them installed and wait a bit and get it tuned.

$400 for install and a tune is a helluva deal!

Yeah, I was happy. He did my original tune so the re-tune wasn't too drastic. Its all WOT street tuning. I have the option for a dyno sheet but it starts running the price up. I could care less about a sheet, I like to see time slips.

Ask around on the forum and see who is recommended in your area.

You've done more research than I have... do these headers make similar power compared to the more expensive ones?

They all will make within a few HP of each other, that ones been established on the forum. My tuner stated the same thing as well.

What is involved in the tune? Is there a device that I need to buy so it can be tuned by a shop? I have FL speed shop nearby so car will be going there.
