Default Help! 05 stumbles under WOT

Hello all,

My 40k mile all stock 05 6 speed (only have a Corsa cat-back) just developed an issue/stumble under WOT. I was pulling out from a light needing to merge lanes, gave it some gas off the line, hit second and increased pressure on the skinny pedal when all of a sudden, it bucked and I had no power...almost sounded like it was only running on 3 cylinders...I mean it was going like hell, than fell flat on its face...I also noticed a strange exhaust smell...maybe running too rich?

No check engine light, nothing lit up (bells or whistles) suggesting the car was having computer issues...felt like it was out of timing...it's not running rough- idles normally...

Bad gas?
Time for plugs and wires?

Not sure what the deal is- so I turn to my brethren!

Thanks!

Best bet is to get a scanner and see if there are any codes, that'll help us diagnose it.

You can get one for $70 or so at WalMart, its a great investment. I use mine for friend's cars too before they go for service so I can tell them what's wring.

What do you know- we are practically neighbors!

That's the next thing on my list- I have buddy with one so I'll use his and post any codes...I miss my C5 when you could pull codes thru the DIC...

I did put gas in it from a different station then I normally do- it was a Mobil station with 93...I typically run Chevron...maybe it was a bad fill up...this just cam out of the blue- never had this issue up until this afternoon...

Howdy neighbor!

Could have been a fluke too. It happens. I miss the c5 code on the dic too.

Get a scan and post up and we shall see what's up.

Possibly clogged catalytic converters? MAF sensor? Was this a one time occurrence or does it do it all the time? I am dealing with a stumble issue myself right now with my Silver 2006 LS2. But mine only does it at part/light throttle. Runs like a champ WOT. I am interested to find out what your issue/fix is. Keep us posted. Good Luck.

Plugs, Wires, TB, Gas, etc, etc. Could be any of these. On my 05, I started having acceleration issues just before my TB went bad on me. I also had a few when I didn't push in a plug wire all the way. Turn on the car, pop the hood and check for any arcing on the plugs. At 40K, I doubt you have a bad plug or wires, sounds like something is loose.

Go get the car warm in this remarkably cool Easter Sunday and rip on it in Mexico (869 or 27 in a safe spot) and report back.

That was my first thought hitting the rev limiter or a combination with bad gas.

I'm pretty sure I was never north of 5000 RPMs... As soon as I hit 2nd, punched it, the bottom fell out. I just pulled the air box off- nothing on the MAF screen- TB was absolutely clean and oil free...I even went as far as changing my air filters to NAPA gold (was running stock GM- could easily see thru them)...

I'm going to try the "blow it out method" I don't push the car hard at all- it's not a daily driver...so I probably got a bad fill up- combined with a little dust from the garage...

I will report back after I hit the highway!

So I did some high RPM pulls- on and off the highway (up to the speed limit of course) but from a slight roll on the on ramp up until 70 mph, with high rpm shift- nothing... Pulled like a freight train, never missing a beat. Car was up to temp- oil was up to temp, so I dropped it down and got off the highway- hit a u-turn and got right back on with some spirit... Still nothing!

I guess it was just a fluke- I still have more than half a tank of that gas I got from a different station... So I'll do my best to run it out and go back to the norm.

Thanks all!
