Lighter is constant hot.

The car has to be in ACC mode or Run mode (push and hold the bottom of the starter button down for 10 seconds, like you would to put the car into acc with a single quick button push instead) for the scanner to read.

If you just cleared a CEL you probably have to have a few "Drive Cycles" before the Machine shows the code cleared.

so if you clear the CEL that makes it so the scanner tool wont even connect to the car-because mine just says not connected

i believe it states something like "system not ready"...
from further reasearch it's probably going to be a blown fuse causing your issue. or the tool is not making a good connectionbetween the male and female plugs.

Any time you clear a code the C6 has to be driven for a few days or so before a smog test can be done. If that was not true we could clear a code in their parking lot before the test and the light could come right back after the test.

No, not true. Don't confuse clearing a CEL with connecting the OBD2 reader.

Not connected means just that-----NOT CONNECTED. It has nothing to do with CEL's being present or not.

Read the other posts, the ignition must be on to get a connection between the OBD2 scanner and the car.
