Security Light Illuminates and Engine Dies...Help?
Hello, a friend of mine asked if I would post this for him. His C6 is experiencing some kind of electrical issue.
The car starts fine and when driving after about 1-2 mins or during acceleration a orange light that looks like a car logo with a lock comes on and the engine dies. The car has to come to a stop, then turn off the car all the way off, let off the clutch and it restarts no problem.
Anyone ever have this issue? He took it to the dealer and they said no code was found and couldn't figure it out by riding with him. But the car isn't really drivable, because it happens over and over he says.
Im thinking it could be some kind of sensor failure or going bad...Any help would be great.
Thanks for the help, I just talked to him and he said the doors and windows work fine. The light blinks on and off during driving and completely kills the engine only.
Okay, everything I'm finding confirms what I already linked above. The "Theft Deterrent System" is the only thing that displays a warning light of a car icon with a padlock through it. Basically if the system is working the car shouldn't start. The owner's manuals all say:
If this light is on continuously while the engine is running, your vehicle needs service.
So I think the only thing we can offer here is tell him to take it to a dealer for proper diagnosis.

The car will start up just fine, when you drive it for about a min or two the light will come on and the engine will completely die. Do you have a email, ill send you the video he sent me.
He took it to the chevy dealer and they couldn't find the light or code to read off of.
Might be time for a different dealer.
The owner's manual says if that light is illuminated and the engine is running, something is wrong. He should just point to that line in the owner's manual when he takes it in. If they can't figure it out, he can open a case with Customer Service. Or he can join here and contact the Customer Service Reps who post here and sometimes help.
I don't need a video, I believe you. Your friend has to get serious with the Service Dept. They are the only ones who can fix it.
