I was reading some of the posts on here and a few have touched on my issue but not detailed enough or I did not find the one that does.
My seats have the adjustable width on them and it really fits great when I can adjust it in smaller. After I adjust it, it slowly goes away after a short time. It only occurs in the driver seat, the passenger seat holds until you change it.
So I need to know how do I check the driver side to see why this is happening and how can it be fixed. If it is in fact filled with air then where does the supply come from and what do I need to check.
Not the sharpest knife in the set so pictures and diagrams or step my step direction will help immensely.
Please help me restore comfort to my C6 seat please.
I think I have found my problem, I will post more information and a few pics later to show you what I found and what I did and if it in fact fixed the problem or not. I will do this later today since I am currently elbow deep into my driver seat.
Well I found the problem, the left side bladder was leaking at the crease. I found it the way you do a tire, by blowing air into it and then placing it under water to look for bubbles and sure enough, in the crease where it expands, bubbles.
The simple fix was simply applying rubber cement along the crease and letting it cure and re-installing it. It was not to difficult to get to or put back and I am sure I saved hundreds by avoiding the dealer and I avoided having a great seat adjustment that does not work. I will post a few pics with a brief explanation on each in the next few posts.
If anyone else has the sides or the lumbar portion of their seat not staying inflated it could be you also have a leak and can also fix yours.
Just to note, my lumbar portion expanded and held in place, the sides would inflate but would gradually over 5-10 minutes deflate. So I assumed the pump worked and that it must be a leak in the tubes or the bladders. I searched and found the lumbar bladder is independent from the sides, same pump but a separate closed system. The two sides are on the same system with a single tube going to both sides with a T directing the air. From this I checked the tubing and both bladders.
The only leak I found was in the left bladder. Since both bladders, left and right are on the same line, a leak anywhere will cause both sides to deflate.
I hope the pics help a little, the seat opens up just enough to allow access to the parts you need to examine.
This is the driver seat, left side bladder that is much larger, the second photo shows a black mark I made in the crease of the bladder where it was leaking. I simply applied a good quality rubber cement (Found in tire patch kits) and allowed it to dry and replaced the bladder.
This is the tube that runs along the bottom of the seat to each side to fill both bladders, the T is located on the left side of the seat. So you have essentially 3 tubes, a T and two bladders to check. When I put the bladders back on I added a touch of rubber cement to prevent any leaks and each has a zip-tie around them to prevent the tubes from coming off, I removed them and then put new ones back when I was done.
This is how much I opened up the seat to get to what I needed for the repair. While I had it open I noticed some split foam and sharp edges under the seat cover, I repaired these using Gorilla Tape to hold the foam together and cover sharp edges to make it a little more comfortable. Then all I did was re-assemble the seat and re-install it.
Being a little OCD, I also cleaned the seats and carpet while these were out. I had both seats out so I cleaned it all up like new and then when I was done I re-installed it all.
Now the seat works like new, no leaks and the carpet and seats are clean as new. Glad I was able to fix this.
