Overheating and dead battery?

On my way to a wedding yesterday, my 2008 was running hot. This is the first time I've had it do it. The DIC said to turn off AC. I did so and slowed down a bit and it was fine. As I was leaving the wedding, my battery died. This also has never happened to me.

Today, the car starts up no problem. Had the battery checked out. It is fine. So is the alternator. However, the car is still running hot (about 3/4 the gauge). My coolant level is fine.

Are these two connected?

Were you/are you..able to determine if it is actually running hot, independent of what the car's gauge says?

Just thinking it may not actually be hot. Might be a sensor issue.

I have not been able to get the exact temperature. It has been extremely hot here. The gauge and DIC read the same, if that matters.

might be a bad thermostat, which caused your fans to kick on stay runing until it cooled down and drained the battery.
