Default Idle help

2012 GS A6 with 24 k on it. Since I bought it new, it had a little stumble while idling, not really much of anything, and time constraints and not wanting to be without it for a week at the dealership, I just lived with it. Runs strong and well, just the idle irritation. No performance mods yet.

Now it seems a bit more pronounced, especially when cold. Air filter is clean, using premium gas every tankful. I've thought about changing the plugs and wires, just seems early to have to do that.

In the old days, carb adjustments, points, etc would be looked at, obviously things are different now. Any suggestions on where to look?

OP, just wondering, are you using an after market air filter, if so how much oil did you apply to it. I have seen that some times you can have an issue with the mass air flow sensor if stuff gets on it.

No, still the stock filter. I had a CAI on my C5, watched that issue closely when I cleaned and oiled the filter. This Car has no performance mods, yet.

Thanks for the reply though.

i would at least check each plug wire to make sure each one of then made a click when connected to the plugs and the coils.

Ls3 have a choppy idle, I would try plug wire connection 1st, then I would wash out the MASS with sensor safe spray and check all your clamps.

Thanks for the replies, I had suspected it might be the wires anyway. I think I will change out the plugs and wires as a preventative measure and see if it improves since I plan on putting on a set of LG Longtubes in the very near future. Probably tear a wire or two in the process.

A somewhat choppy idle is normal. If an engine back in the 60's had these specs, it would barely idle at all. Remember that we are expecting the engine to idle at 650 rpm. OP said "not really much of anything"..to me, that describes normal idle.
