Default Brake pad options....2011 GS

Just curious......

OEM GM factory brake pads for the front are $263.00......rears are $235.00 at the local Chevrolet dealership.

Are there any good aftermarket pads we can get for the GS......?

Thanks.....

How do you use / plan to use the car? Any track days, HPDE's, or just street?

I don't think you're going to find much in the inexpensive category. But be patient for responses to see what is recommended.

For thought, a lot of owners like to switch to ceramic pads for pure street. They are quieter and give off much less dust. Carbotech Bobcat 1521 ceramics have received a lot of positive reviews here, but they aren't cheap.

I'm also looking for pads, most of the time the car is driven normal, I don't track or race the car, I'm looking at Wearever ceramic pads from Autozone $40.00 to $50.00 for the front, and $25.00 to $30.00 for rears, my next choice was Wagner ceramic pads fronts are around $100.00 and the rears are around $50.00 to $60.00 I have two other vehichles a truck and a Maxima and I put Wearever pads on both and haven't had any issues, I think I just made up my mind.

I've had the AutoZone pads on my GS for around 2500 miles now and they work just fine. Little to no dust and dead quiet.

yes, if you go online and check you'll see they may be a little more at the store , that's on line prices , but they will be in that range, or order them online and pick them up at the store.

Hawk has 1 piece pads that replace the 3 separate pads in the front and 2 in the rear. They claim 50% more pad area. Anybody know the reason why the stock brakes have 3 separate pads?

The OEM kits are not cheap but you do get more in them than you do when you get aftermarket pads. The OEM pad kit includes brand new guide pins. There are 16 pins for the front and 12 pins in the rear. Prices for individual pins are around $12 each which isn't a bad price. Other vendors offer 16 pin kits for the front calipers but no 12 pin kits for the rear. You can get by without changing the pins for a few pad changes but it is a good idea to change them some time. They get a build up of brake dust/pitting that can resist the movement of the brake pads.

Autozone's Duralast Gold pads here. 2012 Grand Sport only few hundred miles on them. Very little brake dust. The car stops great, I do not track the car.

Carbotech 1521 in 1 piece design is $509 Total. Call me at 216-780-8825.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Yes, I use Advance auto parts for mine, ceramic pads under $100. for a DD car there is no Good reason to spend the extra money unless maybe you think more is better. I've been using pads on all my vehicles from either Autozone or Advance depending on who has the better deal at the time. for mnay many moons.
