I've used KN filters in my cars for at least 12 years. Always assuming an advantage?? Recently I've seen/heard that just changing the standard filter is just as effective?? On my 07 6.0 L I use it for just track days and under a couple hundred miles a year. Here is the facts:
paper replacement $9 to $16
KN washable $97
KN with duct $390
Is the washable/or duct unit really worth it??
Has anyone other than KN actually dynoed for everyday benifit???
Stock LS3/Z06 - best filtration - not CAI
K&N - worst filtration - not CAI
Vararam - best power - true CAI - needs paper filter
??? - worst power - not CAI
Dyno results vary widely, since the car is not moving. The best way to accurately measure power differences of air inlet systems is at the dragstrip.
For the track time and minor highway/street driving you do, the paper filter you currently use is probably best.
Ive been very pleased with it. Mpg and horsepower/torque have gone up a few. I can tell it breathes alot better. But i also have headers/3inch catless xpipe and borla atak catback.
And halfway through a cam swap (doing it myself)
