Default M6 Stuck in gear

hey guys,

my shifter was acting up and got super stiff and i lost 5th, 6th and reverse. i banged it to the right to get it over to the 5th and 6th gate and something finally broke :/

took the center console out to check the linkage and its still connected to the rod and it moves back and fourth, but i dont hear it switching gears at the trans.

so, my question is has anyone ever had the linkage break at the trans? do i have to pull the trans to fix this? or is my trans effed?

You sheared the splines on the extension shaft (5-6/reverse). This normaly happens from 5th gear pulls. Best case, you'll need a countershaft and extension shaft. Worst case, you'll need all the gears. We see a lot of these on high HP cars. I would suggest upgrading to 06-07 Z06 T56 (has stronger 1 piece countershaft) or TR6060.

you think so?

only reason why i question is because it seems as the linkage isnt even connected the transmission

Do you have 1-4th? If so, it's the extension shafts spline.

I'd want to do a proper shift linkage realignment before stating categorically that it's time to R&R the tranny. If the connection between the shifter linkage and the rod back to the tranny is slipping around (and it can certainly happen that it's loose enough to move under heavy pressure but not when looking at it with the car off and parked) then you can get this result. Make sure that the circled bolt is *tight* (after you realign things.)

It may very well be that the tranny needs work but checking the linkage alignment costs nothing...

i have no gears. no matter where i put the shifter, even in neutral the car is still stills moves forward when releasing the clutch.

Does the shift rod move when you shift through the gears?

You have no gears but car moves if release the clutch? Did I read that correctly?

it was stuck in gear. put the shifter in neutral and it was still in gear, whatever.

anyway i went out and looked at it again this morning and removed the shifter and looked in shifter box and there was a lot of shredded bushing material at the bottom. i rotated the bushing and put the shifter back in and everything works. go flippin figure!

so i guess its time to order a mgw

Are you talking about the rubber mount bushings between the box and the torque tube or the two interior O ring type bushings that are internal to the box where the shift rod slides back and forth ?
