Push rod on loose rocker freely spins and can be moved laterally.

Could that be a lifter pre-load issue? Have you changed the cam or pushrod length recently?

Mine was tapping on drivers side and I could push the rocker off the valve by pushing on the pushrod end of the rocker. Lifter was bad and wasn't fully pumping up. Replaced all lifters and everything is perfect now!

bad lifter, has broken metal near roller. Also, lifter bore has light scoring in it.

Got any pics? I ask because my car is making a sort of clapping noise at idle when warm. Anything above idle and the noise goes away. Also not there when car is cold - anything when oil pressure above idle warm "normal" it seems to show up. I suspect lifter but don't know for sure.

That lobe of the cam is probably toast as well.

Is the roller still free to rotate it is it locked up?

Cam is toast, lobe has depression in it. Roller rolls but more in a oblong pattern instead if circle. Noise was very noticeable in head, but given the size of the missing metal pieces, gonna tear down entire motor and have it looked at. Thinking about a 402 or dropping a 408LY6 in. Depends on the boss and what she has planned other than 10 yr anniv.

Was your noise constant or only during a given set of conditions? Mine is only at idle with "hot" oil temp (>130 F)

Oil the roller pin, slap some JB Weld on the roller, shape, and it'll be fine

Noise was present at idle, just a tad but more noticeable while driving but always present.

D&C,

I'm surprised that the sound on the video wasn't worse given the damage you had - I would have expected it to be much louder than that !! Good thing you investigated quickly.

Good luck with your rebuild !
