An 02 is not a C4, it's a C5.

The 2005 C6 had the 3.15 rear axle ratio that came with the Z51 option package if it had an automatic transmission. What other model year C6s were you asking about?

All C6s with manual transmission have a 3.42 rear axle ratio.

What model year do you have coming, and is it a manual transmission or an automatic transmission? If we know that, we can probably tell you what rear axle ratio it has.

Although all C6s with manual transmission have the 3.42 rear axle ration, different model year automatics had different rear axle ratios. It could be 2.56, 2.73, or 3.15.

I looked it up in the Order Guide. 2005 was the only year that the automatic tranny came with the 3.15 rear axle.

Model year 2007 with automatic transmission had a 2.56 rear axle ratio. No other one available for the automatic. Same with model year 2006. Even the Z51 package only had 2.56.

However, model year 2008 and model year 2009, 2.56 was standard, but the Z51 package came with 2.73.

Here's a link to charts telling you what rpm your engine should be turning at certain speeds for different rear axle ratios.

http://mysite.verizon.net/foofoo2/c6/

These are the numbers for a rear axle ratio of 2.56:

In 3rd gear, at 20 MPH, the engine should be doing 1,000 RPM.

In 3rd gear, at 40 MPH, the engine should be doing 2,000 RPM.

some good info proving the 256 gears in the a6 as good as the 373 in the a4

As I indicated above, the 2007 C6 with automatic transmission has the 2.56 rear axle. That's the only one available with auto for that model year. Doesn't matter whether your car has the Z51 option package or not - the car has the 2.56 rear axle.

Hi

Now i remember that when i was looking to buy an 05 it listed the Z-51 package and 3:15 rear so assumed they would all have it.

Sorry

Alan

PS why 2.56 instead of the 3:15?

3.15 may have been a carry over from the C5. But I really don't know why 2.56.
