There is an insulator pad made to fit in there. It helps. Search Top Flight Reproductions on this forum. I think it is about $20

Another option is to install an insulated tunnel plate from www.eliteengineeringusa.com ; significantly reduced heat in my console.

Welcome to C6 ownership. Btw, The console insert helps. Or you can buy an insulation kit from one of the vendors and do the entire car.
I have read mixed reviews on the tunnel plate.
Bottom line, do your reasearch. However the insert is a quick and inexpensive solution but will not block out all of the heat. Get the cupholder insert while you are at it.
